It’s not all that common for a new home building company to arrive on the scene with a finely developed portfolio of single-family homes. It’s even less common that these designs incorporate the latest proven home-selling trends, and what’s more, they are presented as a “collection” designed to reflect the heritage and natural characteristics of the community at large.
That’s exactly what Fielding Homes of Charlotte, North Carolina, accomplished from the moment of its launch in 2016. A Crescent Communities company, Fielding Homes set out to “change the landscape for production home building through enhanced design, more flexible customization, and a customer-focused buying experience,” said Scott Widener, executive vice president of Fielding Homes.
Such lofty goals called for a partner able to deliver the superior design and engineering know-how to the fledgling builder. Fielding engaged Fieldstone Architecture & Engineering to develop up-to-date floor plans and home elevations that matched the demographic research they had done to ensure the success of their communities.
Fieldstone A&E’s extraordinary work for Fielding Homes analyzed the company’s goals and collected data to develop a complete product line from scratch. Working with Fielding’s development team, Fieldstone A&E produced distinct floor plans designed to stand out in the ways that matter most to its target home buyer, a mid-range, move-up customer interested in a home that combines rich, authentic details in keeping with the area’s heritage with up-to-date amenities.
To address the personalization of the Fielding product, Fieldstone’s designers considered various optional modifications to the homes’ floor plans, such as Carolina rooms, outdoor living rooms with fireplaces, screened porches, coffered ceilings, spa showers, basements, and even tandem garages. Each plan is offered in up to six elevation concepts meant to harmonize the Fielding communities with the surrounding area and its unique Southern culture. Owners can choose from Plank Cottage, Coastal, Georgian, Craftsman, Southern Arts & Crafts, or Upcountry Farmhouse elevations, each developed by Fieldstone A&E to add flavor and a memorable sense of place that is attractive to buyers.
Fieldstone A&E has developed dozens of plans for Fielding Homes and was able to accomplish a four-month turnaround time for the first batch in the series. The design team from Fieldstone A&E even traveled to Charlotte to participate in a two-day design charette with the client that further emphasized the teamwork aspect of the relationship. The new homes were eventually offered in three communities around Charlotte, North Carolina, and by 2017, two new communities in Holly Springs and Hillsborough, near Raleigh, came online.
A highlight of 2016 was Fielding Homes’ Gold Award at the Charlotte Parade of Homes. The “Artisan” model at Mason’s Bend in Fort Mill, North Carolina, achieved a perfect score from the judges at this prestigious event.
In this case, the passion, know-how, and sheer capacity that Fieldstone A&E brings to its clients helped a start-up home building organization achieve success right out of the gate. With Fieldstone as a trusted design partner, Fielding Homes built in three short years what other builders take decades to accomplish.
